Third painting from African ideas, 'Bob Ross style'. This was the easiest I guess from the three, or else I'm getting better and faster. I used a 20"x24" canvas, prepared with yellow acrylic and used liquid clear after it dried. There are two ways you can see this painting and one of them is that the moon is out while the sun already has set in the distance, what would explain the very dark grass and the almost black trees and antilope. You can also interpret this with the sun just setting or rising, but I rather settle for the moon approach.
After consulting the family, I was (finally!) able to place an animal in the painting. I chose for an antilope and the result is really good but for a hiccup (happy mistake) between the horns where I was busy with the blackened scriptliner and all of a sudden breathed out too hard, making my hand move sideways a little. With a palet knife and lots of yellow, I was able to adjust it but my unfortunate error is still slightly visible. Maybe I will correct even more after all paint has dried.
Hardest part in this painting was the antilope where ALL the rest was not only easy but VERY fun to do! I have two more Africans prepared for the next weeks so there will be more of these. Please enjoy!!
Super comment from you again Lightsnow, always appreciating your visits and cheers! The sunset is one of the main reasosn I'm painting these, cause then I can really blend several colours and also limit the amount of detail on nature. And of course, I happen to like silhouettes as well! Concerning the animal(s), I recommend trying a sketch on paper first and see what is the best shape you can use. Painting animals as a silhouette also helps cause then you don't have to worry about contrasts and colours too much. For my next African one, I think I might put in a giraffe! Till next one!
Love this painting. Now you can brighten up any room with all of them together as set (but even one will bring hot wind of Africa to the room) and may be put couple of bright pillows...
I like how you made grass!
Antelope! this is WOW! Amazing! I cannot take this bravery test. But so happy you took it! Looks great!
Looking forward to see Giraffe and your next African masterpiece!
Dear Sunnylady, excellent idea, bringing them together. I will need sunglasses to enter that room! The grass was so easy, just stamp the paint in the brush (1" or 2") and tap a line over the canvas in the desired shape. Then get rid of any excess paint on the brush (paper towel) and simply slide the grass upwards with the brush until the desired length. Do this in one time, not several or the grass effect is gone.
Concerning the antilope, please try it out once, you are skilled enough. No excentric details, just a natural shape, no worries! Till next one!
You are absolutely killing these African settings. Way to go and keep up the great work.
Hehe, gracie Mhk, merci beaucoup, next week there will be another, no worries!
Gorgeous 🤩

Great take on this one. I've always loved tree silhouettes against a sunset sky. That was actually one of the main things I wanted to try painting once I started. That's always something I love in nature. Great antilope too! I know how finicky the script liner can be! I also find myself holding my breath when I use it. I don't think your hiccup is very noticeable at all. If you had not pointed it out, I'd have never seen it. I would recommend not attempting to fix it after the painting has dried. Great work with this one! You give me a bit of hope of attempting animal shapes myself some day (the thought terrifies me).
